Editor’s note: ‘Tis the season – not only to celebrate the year’s end, but to look back at highlights of the past 12 months and start thinking about what we hope the coming year will bring. This week on Porchlight, we’ll reminisce about some of 2016’s bright spots, and help you get ready to greet 2017.
It’s been a stellar year for celebrity real estate, with big names trading even bigger homes. Here’s a taste of some of the best real estate eye candy we’ve ever seen, from Christie Brinkley’s mansion in the Hamptons to Chris Hemsworth’s private hideaway in Malibu and Alicia Keys’ glass house on Camelback Mountain in Phoenix.

These perpetually A-list stars know how to shed a light on luxury. Their longtime Los Angeles mansion boasts oversized skylights, built-in bookcases and an upstairs gym with walls of mirrors. But it’s the colors, patterns and farmhouse coziness of the living room and eat-in kitchen that really wow.
“How I Met Your Mother” star Alyson Hannigan and her husband, actor Alexis Denisof, flipped this gorgeous New England-style home in the posh Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood. The stand-out renovation is its new kitchen, which rocks a modern farmhouse look.
After the series “This Is Us” hit the big time, star Mandy Moore sold her Mediterranean-style home in the hipster enclave of Los Feliz. The 1920s stunner features wrought-iron railings and French doors that open onto citrus trees and verdant views.
Johnny Depp built a compound in the sky, and it’s an Art Deco extravaganza. We took a peek inside when the actor listed all five penthouses overlooking Los Angeles — and his listing agent called them “pieces of art.” No exaggeration, that.
If supermodels are modern-day royalty, then Christie Brinkley listed her castle this year: A Hamptons estate with views of the ocean. The compound boasts a main home with a 50-foot observation tower, plus a guesthouse with a greenhouse conservatory.
Who doesn’t need a glass mansion on Camelback Mountain in Phoenix? Apparently, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, who have listed their nearly 7,900-square-foot gem with two-story walls of windows. And don’t even get us started on the mind-blowing infinity pool.
It was a listing fit for a god. “Thor” hunk Chris Hemsworth and his wife, actress Elsa Pataky, put their own private Valhalla on the market this year. The secluded Malibu home also has a pedigree: Hemsworth bought it from “Crocodile Dundee” star Paul Hogan.
